Creativity is Priceless, The Collision of LED Screen and Art

2024-04-25

With the advent of the digital information age and the revolution of technologies such as the Internet and virtual reality, the impact of technology on various fields has become ubiquitous, and art is no exception. On the one hand, the development of technology provides artists with more sources of creativity. On the other hand, technological updates have also had a huge impact on creators' concepts: artificial intelligence, chatgpt, virtual reality, etc. have subverted people's past understanding of themselves and the outside world. In the face of such changes, artists and curators have also made corresponding adjustments. The continuous emergence of scientific and technological works and the successive art exhibitions confirm this. With the increasingly mature powerful functions and creative displays of LED displays, more and more art designers are using LED displays to create beautiful art installations. The market for creative LED displays that lead the industry trend is also expanding.

Art LED Screen

After years of development, LED displays are no longer just traditional LED displays. On the one hand, with the continuous development and popularization of technology, LED display screens have always been an important display terminal for realizing AR/VR, XR virtual technology, metaverse and other black technologies to enter people's field of vision. On the other hand, in the eyes of art creators, LED display screens are no longer a cold hardware device, but a canvas for unrestrained imagination.

When the LED screen is no longer just an LED screen, its innovative application will be the key to opening a new world, and the time dimension, space dimension, virtual dimension and reality dimension will be expanded. When modern technology and art are integrated, it is inseparable from the auxiliary presentation of LED display technology, which promotes the cooperation of the audience's vision, hearing and other senses and behaviors, and creates a new visiting experience. Next, let's take a look at some innovative applications using LED displays.

Urban Reflection

"Urban Reflection" uses high-tech visual design and interactive technology to show the multiple faces of the city. This work uses light and shadow effects to transform the rhythm and energy of urban life into visual language, providing the audience with a new urban experience. In a 27.2m*5.4m fountain pool, there are 42 LED panels about 4 meters high and 76 mirrors. This layout vividly reflects the night view of Victoria Harbor and skyscrapers, subtly blending the brilliance of Hong Kong’s neon lights and architectural wonders. Viewers are immersed in a mesmerizing world against a backdrop of distant skyscrapers.

Portkey of the Maze_PX25

"Portkey of the Maze_PX 25" is the world's first outdoor immersive installation in the form of a maze. The surface of the installation uses LED panels and covers an area of 1,110 sqm. It is located in the center of Xinyi District, opposite the Taipei 101 building. A four-story monolith in the center of the maze showcases 10 of Ouchhh’s iconic works from the past 13 years. The four-story LED monolith is an installation that can be seen from the outside, with a hidden infinity room beneath it. This is the first installation where artificial intelligence creations can be experienced from the inside and outside at the same time.

Digital Parade

RED゜ is Japan's largest e-sports park located on the third floor of Tokyo Tower, and WOW Inc. is responsible for producing the large-scale LED screens installed on the park walls, the floor LED screens in the tunnel sections, and the videos on the floor projections. shows that the transformation of a flat LED screen into a new three-dimensional space is possible thanks to a carefully planned and innovative concept and its intuitive video creation capabilities. Red-themed shots of massive orbs rippled create a sense of excitement for those who were about to have fun there, while battles in an online world of geometric low-polygon characters conveyed a sense of fun reminiscent of 2D fighting games.

EMERGENCE

British LED light art installations "Emergence". The structure consists of 75 large mirror units covering all surfaces with a mirror-polished finish, arranged in a cylindrical pavilion-style structure with three entrances, all of which are wheelchair accessible. The LEDs run around the outer end of each unit, forming a square, with the entire structure totaling about 14,000 pixels. These LEDs are visible from both the interior and exterior and display an ever-evolving and mesmerizing program of highly complex light patterns, accompanied by an audio track choreography. Each part is carefully designed to create an optical illusion within. When viewed from a close distance, a complete ball of light is formed, forming a huge grid of light. The work offers viewers three different experiences, from collective to intimate, depending on their location.
